Do What You Do!!
I have to admit I was not excited to have Spencer play tackle football. I am pretty protective and the thought of him getting hurt just sends me over the top. But every stumbling block I put in his way he over came. He even earned his own money to play! He is a determined kid and he loves football.
But last Saturday I was able to see a side of him as a mother I always knew was there, but never saw in the light of day so to speak.
The cowboys were down 14 to 0. The boys were feeling down and out to day the least. I could see the discouragement all over Spencer's face. So something inside of me decided to do something to help him. He is My Boy after all. I asked him to come over while he was out getting a drink. I grabbed him by the mask and said "get mad Spencer don't take this. Now get out there and "Do What You Do!" (This is what Jimmer Ferdett's mom says to him before every game and I have decided to do the same for my boys who are big time BYU fans. Thanks Uncle Mitch!)
Somehow this lit a fire in Spencer and he started to get his team motivated. Right after this he ran the next 3 first downs which was instrumental in helping to score the touch down for the game. They ended up losing 14 to 7, but those boys were so pumped up by Spencer that it didn't matter. Later Spencer told his coach, "We may have lost the game, but we won in spirit!" Meaning they overcame their discouragement and got with the program. To bad it was a little late for a win this game. I bet this next game will be different.
I was proud of #40 he has true leadership abilities he is an outstanding example to his peers and besides that HE IS MY BOY!!! "Just Do What You Do"
